What you would put in a survival kit? With all the Catastrophe's going on these days, it's a good idea to have a back up plan. Preparing a survival kit in advance is a great back up plan. A good camping survival kit should include items which don't need electricity to operate, light weight non-perishable food, something to start a fire, water tablets, face masks, solar, LED light, or candle for light, and a flare or something bright orange to help people find you if you are lost or camouflage if you need to be hidden. When disaster strikes you may need a similar kit with a few more items, such as seeds to plant food or MRE's so you have food to hold you until some can be grown or located. Oftentimes, when disaster's strike there is little if any time to prepare and people are left with no edible food, contaminated drinking water, and no utilities so it's a pretty good idea to make a survival kit-just in case. It may also be wise to include a wild edible plants book while you are preparing your survival kit ahead of time. Just in case you lose your food to a wild animal or catastrohe of some type. Survival kit in a coffee can I read about an interesting little survival kit that could fit in a coffee can. I decided it to try it and it really works, if you just need a small kit to keep in the trunk of your car or to carry on a hiking kit though I would not tote it in a coffee can but a totebag which would be lighter. There are also ten items listed which will not fit in the can. You can check it out yourself here: The Do-it yourself coffee can survival kit Pre-packaged survival kits There are many great pre-packaged survival kits now available for different types of survival emergencies. These kits save you the time and trouble of deciding on what to pack, locating those items, and packaging them in one convenient tote. I am interested in hearing about what you would put in a survival kit that may help us when deciding which kits to offer or to just help other people like yourselves that are also interested in creating a good survival kit. If I were preparing a disaster survival kit I think I would put everything you suggested plus bar or liquid soap in plastic zip lock bags to wash with and toilet paper too. :)

I think the most important things you listed was the edible plants book and the water tablets. Something I would also take with me would be coffee in ziploc bags and a lightweight first aid kit which contains something for various bites or stings from mosquito's or even snakes.

I would put everything mentioned this far except for I see a few missing items like a small shovel and portable toilet bags..I know that sounds weird but we can't just go crapping every where in the woods..lol
